Obesity In Pets.

jenvetnurse writes "We love our animals but in the uk 30 to 50% of cats and dogs are cliniclly obese.
It is a sad fact but most owners are not even aware that their pet is suffering due
to overfeeding and lack of exercise.
You can tell if your pet is overweight. Can you easily feel the ribs? Is your pet within the ideal weight range for it's age and sex?
If you are still unsure chat to your vet or vet nurse about it.
Most veterinary practices offer free weight clinics where your pet is assessed and a plan is made of how to get your pet to reach it's ideal
weight and stay fit and healthy for life.
Some clients have a tendancy to dismiss the seriousness of the issue with remarks such as
"It's because he was castrated" or "I am the same - I could do with loosing a few pounds"
There is no need for these flippant excuses. A responsible owner should do all possible
to have a healthy happy pet.
Hills rd diet OR purina obesity management or pedigree calorie control are generally the
diets of choice.
Please post in the forums any experiences with weight clinics that you have either as a
client, a vet or a vet nurse.
