jenvetnurse writes "Whenever a male dog above four years of age visits the clinic with the complaint of frequent occurrence of constipation or difficult micturition or both, it should also be investigated for the ailments of prostate apart from examining and investigating such cases for disorders related to digestive and urinary system.
This generally also happens in the cases of prostatic hyperplasia, infections, cysts, abscesses related to prostate, where enlarged prostate gland is the cause behind these symptoms.
Because of the increased size, the prostate puts excessive pressure on rectum and urethra resulting into the symptoms of difficult defecation and urination.
Also due to continuous pressure of enlarged prostate, some other changes may occur in urinary bladder resulting in the interference with normal function of bladder. Although initially the symptoms may not be very severe, but if unattended may lead to severe complications.
