A parrot was presented with the history of injury to its left wing. It was rescued by some school boys.
On careful investigation, it was diagnosed with a fractured humerus. There was also an open wound present.
Antiseptic dressing of the wound was carried out with Betadine and the site was immobilized using a padded cardboard splint. The cardboard was chosen as the splint material because; it was lighter in shape and also could be fitted easily on the wing using tape.
The antiseptic was instilled on alternate days into the wound. By the fifth day, the wound was totally dry and the bird recovered uneventfully within 36 days.
