TRANSMISSIBLE VENEREAL TUMOR IN A BITCH: - A CASE REPORT
An adult bitch weighing about 18 kg was presented at Veterinary Polyclinic Bhuntar with the problem of dropping blood, difficult urination, multiple vulvar growths and severely distorted vulvar lips.
It had been treated at a local Veterinary hospital for about 2 months but the condition did not improve, however growths kept on increasing. Upon thorough examination and investigation, it was diagnosed as transmissible venereal tumor that had been causing other complications.
The extensive growth of tumor masses caused the distortion of vulvar lips and also partial obstruction of urinary opening. The routine clinical parameters of the bitch were noticed to be well within normal ranges.
The animal was put on antineoplastic treatment with Vincristine. On first week- 0.2 mg, on 2nd week- 0.3 mg and on 3rd week 0.5 mg of Vincristine was injected intravenously. After one week, tumors started showing significant regression and within four weeks of initiating treatment the animal showed uneventful recovery with complete visible regression of tumors, normal shape & size of vulva and normal urination.
