Hina Patel has bravely opened her own practice with no vets onboard.

The first practice of this nature has opened in Mill Hill – London and is called Triage Pets. The clinic offers all the usual nurse consultations that you would find in most Veterinary practices.
Whenever I have held nurses clinics I like the fact that a vet is on the premises if necessary. Many times I have noticed an urgent problem or the owner has asked for a booster or I have needed advice about another problem. I would hesitate to hold nurses clinics without a vet around personally and I am also very experienced.
However, I do think it will be the first of many clinics of this kind and the best of luck to Hina. Nurses are great at giving advice and saving the clients money – consultation fees are always increasing and most owners complain about the cost of their pet care.
I also think consults are rushed and running late and most clients do not get enough time spent on them. Many clients leave the room misunderstanding what the vet has said and asks the vn to explain it all again on the way out.
I once had a client leave the consult room looking confused. I asked her if she was ok and she replied ‘I haven’t a clue what that vet was talking about!’
The vet just rushed through a complicated problem and she was too nervous to ask questions. I explained everything at length and she left feeling satisfied.
It will be interesting to see how successful the clinic will be. Whether clients expect too much for free and how many other nurses copy this idea.
