From homeless to screen star – puss Bisha finds fame in TV ad.
Posted on Thursday, April 26 @ 11:49:31 BST by jenvetadmin

Cats Protection jenvetnurse writes "A black and white puss came into a cat Adoption Centre in need of a home – and left as a TV star.
One-year-old Bisha was pregnant when she was handed over to Cats Protection’s care because her owner could no longer keep her.

A month later she gave birth to five kittens – Brent, Biggles, Bliss, Bob and Binky – and it wasn’t long before the new family were chosen to star in a TV commercial for the charity.

Bisha, with her good looks and friendly personality, was an obvious choice to take a starring role in the advert, which is being screened on TV channels including ITV3, some Channel 4 regions and a number of Freeview channels from today (25 April).
Her seven-week-old kitten Brent also appeared for scenes which were shot at Cats Protection’s National Cat Adoption Centre near Haywards Heath in Sussex.

In the advert, Bisha plays the role of a stray mother who finds the only refuge to give birth is under the bonnet of a car in a scrapyard. Brent takes the part of the only kitten in the litter-of-four to survive the traumatic start to life.

The commercial shows the pair being cared for by Cats Protection before little Brent is given a new home. It finishes with a plea for new owners to take on adult cats like Bisha who are harder to rehome than kittens.

The heart-breaking story is based on the real-life tale of Munchie, who won the Most Incredible Story category at Cats Protection’s Rescue Cat of the Year Awards 2006.

After filming was over, there were happy endings all round for Bisha and her five kittens after all were found loving new homes shortly after the commercial was shot.

Betty Boud, Manager of the National Cat Adoption Centre, said: “Bisha was not only a devoted and caring mother, she was also a friendly and sweet-natured cat so she was ideal for the filming.

“Sadly it is the adult cats, many of which have had traumatic experiences, which are the hardest to find new homes for. Hopefully Bisha’s TV appearance will help to remind people of other adult cats who, like her, have lots of love and affection to offer a new owner.”

Cats Protection is the UK’s leading feline welfare charity, finding loving homes for around 60,000 cats through its nationwide network of 29 Centres and 261 Branches. If you would like to make a donation, or offer a feline a loving home, please call our Helpline on 08702 099 099.
